Penobscot Theatre Company is now registering children aged 4-14 for their fall Dramatic Academy production of Frankenstein. Classes begin September 16th and run every Tuesday and Thursday through October. Frankenstein will be performed by the students at the Bangor Opera House on October 31, November 1 and November 2. Registrations for this program close September 15.
In this world premiere adaptation of the Mary Shelley classic, young Victor Frankenstein creates a monster and then must deal with the consequences. Focusing on themes like acceptance, identity and responsibility, this is a powerful new rendering of a familiar tale written for young actors. We wanted to start off our Dramatic Academy season with a bang and the Frankenstein story seemed like a perfect fit! Additional program offerings are Holes during the winter session and James and the Giant Peach in the spring.
Another current offering is Penobscot’s brand new Young Adult Conservatory for children aged 15-19. This new program was designed specifically to offer professional-level training for young adult actors who are seeking a more in-depth exploration of the actor’s craft. Penobscot’s Artistic Director, Bari Newport, will be leading the first session. We intend to provide the highest possible level of training to our young adults, which will give them an advantage in college theatre programs or in the professional world.
