Three Theatres Unite to Cast Roles for Upcoming Productions

Penobscot Theatre Company to hold master classes on
“auditioning” prior to Unified Auditions

Bangor,ME – Penobscot Theatre Company, Acadia Repertory Theatre, and ImprovAcadia will jointly hold a general open call for union and non-union actors aged 18+ who wish to be considered for upcoming productions. Bangor Unified Auditions will be Saturday, February 14, from 10:00 am to 5:00pm, at Penobscot Theatre Company’s home at the Bangor Opera House, 131 Main Street, Bangor.

“This will be our second year hosting these joint auditions. Each of the three companies found the auditions to be extremely beneficial last year,” said Bari Newport, Producing Artistic Director of Penobscot Theatre Company. “We were not only able to solve immediate casting challenges, but we were also able to meet some extraordinary people who will certainly solve challenges in the future. It’s just great to know who’s out there. We are holding the auditions earlier this year, so that the two summer companies have the opportunity to fill more positions locally.”

Penobscot Theatre Company welcomes this opportunity to engage with union and non-union, local and non-local adult actors who are interested in being considered for PTC’s 2015-2016 Season. Additional auditions, including auditions for youth will be held on May 16 and 17. For forty-one years, Penobscot Theatre Company has produced a wide-variety of contemporary and classic plays and musicals. The upcoming season includes seven productions, four straight plays and three musicals. All types are encouraged to audition, whether PTC has seen you before or not. Male and female actor/musicians or musician/actors are especially encouraged to attend. Please bring your instrument if possible.

ImprovAcadia seeks experienced improvisers for their Twelfth Season. Located in Bar Harbor, ME, ImprovAcadia is a seasonal short form improvisational theater that offers shows seven days a week at the height of the season. They seek improvisers with minimum 2 years of training and 2 years of stage experience. The audition will consist of scene work, a short form game and some musical improvisation.

The Acadia Repertory Theatre has produced a four-play summer theatre season on Mount Desert Island every year since 1973. ACT programming includes a mixture of dramas, comedies and mysteries. ACT seeks male and female actors 18+ for positions in their 2015 season, which runs from late June until Labor Day Weekend.

Actors wishing to be seen for positions at Penobscot Theatre Company and AcadiaRep should prepare two contemporary, contrasting monologues, no more than 2 min each. Singers may additionally prepare 16 bars of an uptempo musical theatre or rock song.

The ImprovAcadia audition will consist of scene work, a short form game and some musical improvisation from 12pm -1pm. Those wishing to be considered by ImprovAcadia should specifically indicate their interest in the body of the email. Actors should bring three copies of their stapled headshots and resumes to the audition and sheet music if they plan to sing. An accompanist will be provided. No a capella singing please.

All positions at the three theatres are paid.

To schedule an audition time, actors should email casting@penobscottheatre.org and write “UNIFIEDS” in the subject line. Within the body of the email, please indicate if you intend to sing and if you will be auditioning for ImprovAcadia. A confirmation email with designated audition time will follow. Prior to the unified auditions, Penobscot Theatre Company will host two audition workshops on January 17 and 24. These workshops will be taught by Amy Roeder, Penobscot Theatre’s Director of Education. In addition to teaching this workshop around the country, Roeder holds her MFA in acting from the University of Georgia and is a certified teacher with the National Michael Chekhov Association. The first class will focus on the nuts and bolts of auditioning and selecting appropriate monologues. The second class will be a mock audition with Roeder providing constructive feedback on students’ work. Each class is held at the Bangor Opera House and runs from 10:00am to 12:30pm and are $25 each or $50 for the pair. Students choosing to only participate in the January 24th class should come prepared with a memorized monologue. No experience is necessary! About Amy Roeder

Director of Education – Amy Roeder is pleased to be joining the staff at PTC. Amy received her BFA in theatre from the University of Evansville and her Master of Fine Arts in acting from The University of Georgia. She recently relocated to Bangor from Chicago where she taught and performed with famed comedy institution The Second City. Local audiences may have seen her onstage with Improv Acadia in Bar Harbor where she has been a company member since 2005. Amy has performed all over the country including at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, Cincinnati’s Playhouse in the Park and with the Improv Asylum in Boston. In addition to teaching acting and improvisation classes all over the world, Amy is also designs and facilitates workshops in improvisational techniques for businesses. Amy hates writing in the third person.
