PTC’s Teen Council to produce Showcase May 30th at 7 p.m.

“It’s a superior achievement for any theatre to reach forty years of age. Forty years means countless seasons of casting, lighting, costumes, scenic design, marketing, and finally the shows itself. Forty years means that this theatre has brought quality entertainment that make people keep on coming back and wanting more. Penobscot Theatre (PTC) has accomplished such a feat.
Yet, while many patrons of PTC may perceive that the large number of adults onstage account for the true age demographic of the theatre, there is a whole other age group.

Ever since PTC’s Dramatic Academy was created, teens aged thirteen to nineteen have been an integral part. Whether it has been assisting with internships, behind the stage work, or simply learning, perfecting or performing their craft, the teenagers are another vital part of this theatre. Back in 2012, PTC’s Director of Education Jasmine Ireland formulated a venue where the teens of the theatre could collaborate and spread the word about theatre education and could also gain education for themselves. Two years later, it has been a constant success and now they are ready to prove it.

As Penobscot Theatre closes out its fortieth anniversary, it’s an impressive sight to reflect in all the shows the theatre has performed. The wide variety from classical to modern from hilarious farces to epic dramas. Because of this, the PTC Teen Council is creating a special event to celebrate both the 40th anniversary of the company and introduce the Teen Council to the public. The Teen Council will produce its first-ever show entitled:” Around the Shows in 40 Years: A Look Back at PTC’s Favorites”. In it, the Teen Council has selected what they view as some of their favorite plays and musicals that have been performed by the Penobscot Theatre—with a large variety, of course.
The plays will go as far back as PTC’s 1975 production of the Importance of Being Earnest to as recent as PTC’s 2011 production of To Kill a Mockingbird. Other plays will include: Almost Maine, Romeo and Juliet, Cyrano de Bergerac, Little Shop of Horrors, Guys and Dolls, The Fantasticks, Waiting for Godot and a few big musical surprises!

The showcase will be hosted on May 30th at 7pm at the Penobscot Theatre. There won’t be any standard ticket price, but we encourage all attendees to donate what they wish. The money will then go back to the Teen Council and Dramatic Academy to continue to further and encourage dramatic education in the Bangor region and to ensure quality entertainment from the Teen Council. There will also be a multitude of concessions at the theatre and one ten-minute intermission.”

They serve as advisers to the Director of Education and play an integral role in main stage productions as well as community events.
