Penobscot Theatre Company announces Dramatic Academy Spring Semester!

Penobscot Theatre Company’s Department of Education is pleased to announce its Dramatic Academy offerings for the spring semester! With everything from magic classes, youth training, to (yep) Zumba there is sure to be something for everyone.  For the new year, Dramatic Academy will expand to provide programming for people of all ages and interests.  Check out what we’ve got in store for you!

 

Ethan Schneider shares his magical skills with kids at Halloween.

Magician’s Workshop:  (Ethan Schneider) January 5th – 26th, Saturdays 10 a.m. – Noon, Ages 12+   Students will work our resident magician Ethan Schneider to learn the basics of magic. All materials will be provided. The class will culminate in a public showcase.

Zumba at the Opera House:   (Christie Robinson) January 26th-February 16th, Saturdays 1-2 p.m., Ages 12+   Get moving this winter with Zumba classes at the Opera House! Licensed instructor Christie Robinson will lead the class giving instruction in movement and how it relates to work in the theater.  Class will result in an invited showcase for family and friends.

 

Improvisation: (Bradley LaBree) January 7th – Feb 26th, Tuesdays 5:30-7:30 p.m.   

Teaching Artist Brad LaBree

    Ages 18+     This class will focus on the basics of improvisation. Topics covered include: agreement; active listening; using the environment; basic narrative skills and understanding stage status. This class will culminate in a final performance designed and performed by the students.

 

 

D.A.’s Tiny Thespians perform as the “Bee Ensemble” in last year’s production of The Blueberry Balladeer.

Tiny Thespians: (Jasmine Ireland) March 26 – April 28, Tuesdays 3 -4, Saturdays 10 – 11:30 Ages 4 – 7  Our youngest students will study theater fundamentals including voice, movement, and memorization to perform as ensemble members for our spring production of The Little Prince.  Performances April 26 – 28.

 

Youth Troupe: (Jasmine Ireland) Ages 8 – 12

March 26 – April 28, Tuesdays 4-6, Saturdays 12 – 3 

Youth Troupe to perform The Little Prince.

Youth troupe will explore the process of literature being adapted into a play. With a focus on characterization, movement, and ensemble building, these students will play the character roles in our production of The Little Prince.
