“I definitely think Spring Awakening  is an important musical that needs to be done for and understood by the public. It is not a show about “swearing and sex,” as I have been told by several people. This show paints an accurate and timeless picture of how kids try and understand the emotional and physical changes they experience as they become young adults. The story is incredible and very real. For example, in life, boys have fantasies about women, children are abused by their parents, students lose their sanity under the pressures of school, people are gay, boys and girls want to have sex, and abortions happen. If these topics aren’t discussed and are instead censored, the growing generation won’t know how to cope with these changes that they are going through, just like the characters in Spring Awakening.

I’ve had an amazing time working on this production. I didn’t know that much about the show before starting work on it. When I first listened to the music out of context and had a rough synopsis of the show, I was sure it was only a show about “swearing and sex.” But after a week and a half, it’s very clear to me that it is not at all. The script is gorgeous and is littered with truths and brilliant writing. On top of that, I’ve loved working with such a driven group of individuals. Being in a small cast with such a lot of passion really gets my energy going every night for three hours!”
