Joe Musso

Meet Joe Musso!  Joe has been the only playwright to be featured in every year of the Northern Writes New Work Festival. Having shared works including last year’s audience voted favorite Conk and Bone, Joe has become a part of our Northern Writes tradition. We are please to invite him back again this year. Check out what he has to say about the festival!

Hi, I’m Joe Musso, a playwright participating in Penobscot Theatre’s 6th Annual Northern Writes Festival of New Work.

This year, my play “The Logophile,” a comedy set in a New Orleans bookshop, will receive three staged readings at the festival. As a special nod to Maine audiences, one of the play’s characters, a ghost named Cyrus, was a captain in the 22nd Maine Infantry Regiment during the Civil War.

The Northern Writes Festival of New Works has played a vital role in my playwriting career. In fact, “The Logophile” will be my sixth play to receive a staged reading in as many years.

The plays in the festival are always directed by a talented director and read by talented actors. A playwright has the opportunity to see his or her new play come to life on stage, often for the first time. The experience is invaluable and always results in a stronger play.

Equally as important, though, are the audiences in Bangor who attend the readings. I have received phenomenal feedback from Penobscot Theatre audience members.

I encourage you to attend Penobscot Theatre’s 6th Annual Northern Writes Festival of New Work, which takes place from June 18 to June 23. More details are available at Penobscot Theatre’s website, www.penobscottheatre.org.
