Calling All Artists!

Penobscot Theatre’s Department of Outreach is proud to announce a new partnership with the PICA (Power in Community Alliance) organization.    PICA approached us to help them develop a new piece of theater addressing the subject of “Dignity for All.”  We are very excited about this new project and want your voice to be heard!  We will be working to create a new mixed-medium theater event that particularly addresses the concerns of the current economic crisis.  We are looking for short scenes, poetry, songs, documentary pieces, really any sort of artful expression regarding the topic of dignity in regard to the Occupy Movement or the “1%”.  We will also be including some excerpts from more traditional theatre sources such as a staged scene from Death of A Salesman and the like.    The goal is to have the piece be presented as a new work during the Northern Writes 6th Annual Play Festival.  If you are interested, please send a proposal outlining the type of piece you would like to develop including intent, a brief outline, and technical needs that does not exceed two pages.  We look forward to hearing your ideas!

DEADLINE FOR PROJECT SUBMISSION PROPOSAL: MARCH 1st

“Dignity for All”: A Theatrical Production

Who We Are

PICA (Power in Community Alliances) is a volunteer organization with an office in the Coe Building on Main Street in Bangor. We have been working on social and economic justice issues for twenty-five years.

The “Dignity for All” Campaign

This is one of PICA’s more recent initiatives on behalf of the most vulnerable among us, those most at risk during this difficult time of scarce resources. “Dignity for All” expresses our conviction that everyone in the Bangor community deserves fair treatment and equal access to essential services.

More specifically, we believe that all people in our community should have civil rights, equal rights on the job, equal treatment by police and the courts, access to essential medical, educational and social services, and the right to be treated with dignity. In short, we are committed to the proposition that, regardless of what is going on in the rest of the country or the state, in Bangor everyone is to be treated fairly.
